A Regency Christmas: celebrate with Jane Austen and Queen Charlotte from Christmas Eve until Twelfth Night.
Date: Wednesday 06th December 2017
Time: 10.30 am -12.30 pm
Venue: No.6 The Square Tearooms, The Square, Buxton, SK17 6AZ – The tearooms have a first floor room that can seat fourteen.
Find out about the way in which Christmas traditions evolved during the late eighteenth century as well as about the new innovations of the period before Charles Dickens and the Victorians got their hands on the celebrations. Christmas was slightly different – not so child orientated- but there were still family festivities and lots of merriment both at home and abroad for soldiers serving in the Napoleonic Wars.
Handouts provided to accompany illustrated lecture and discussion.
