I have taught medieval, Tudor and Stuart History for the Workers’ Educational Association (W.E.A.) in Yorkshire and in Derbyshire following a career teaching various subjects in secondary schools, further education colleges and Sheffield Hallam University.
I have been an ‘expert’ on Australian Who Do You Think You Are? It was a real pleasure to see behind the scenes and to meet Barry Humphries. I’d love to do more t.v. work.
I am the published author including several books with Pen and Sword and am currently working on a book about the history of Derbyshire with The History Press. I am also fortunate enough to have seen my short stories in print in The People’ Friend, Woman’s Weekly and best. When I’m not researching, I’m currently working on a novel set in the aftermath of World War One. In addition I have written travel pieces with a historical slant for ezines and written guided audio walks for several of England’s historic cities including York, Canterbury and Carlisle which can be found at GPsmyCity. If you would like to know more click the’My Books’ tab which can be found at the top of the blog.
In 2023 I took part in the Unstitched Coif project as part of Toni Buckby’s PHD in conjunction with the V @ A Museum. When the linen arrived, I thought I’d never complete it. The linen comes from Milan and had 74 threads to the inch. I thoroughly enjoyed researching and completing the project.
I’m at my happiest exploring old ruins, stately stacks and museums. Other interests include walking, photography, needle crafts, cutting silhouettes and jam making to name but a few.
